Author and Historian Daniel E. Walker to Lead Larry Donnell Kimmons Memorial Lecture

Portrait of Larry Donnell KimmonsOn Monday, April 4, 2022, at 3 PM, Daniel E. Walker will lead the third installment of the Larry Donnell Kimmons Memorial Lecture Series. The lecture, entitled “The Urgency of Now,” will be held in the Surfboard Room of Payson Library. The lecture will also be available for livestream viewing.

Walker is an expert on religion, equity in the education and entertainment industries, Black and Latino coalition building, and the arts as a tool for economic and social justice. He is a professor of history at El Camino College and the founder and curator of the Gospel Music History Archive at the University of Southern California. For more than a decade he served as a Research Associate at USC’s Center for Religion and Civic Culture.

Made possible by the Office for Community Belonging and Pepperdine Libraries, the series demonstrates Pepperdine’s enduring commitment to honor Kimmons, who was fatally shot by George Pepperdine College campus security on March 12, 1969, and advance justice, peace-building, and reconciliation.
